I am a mid level consultant/ project manager that was formerly with a smaller firm purchased by AECOM (the norm from what I gather). I honestly have never met a happy employee no matter what practice line or field or position or geography. There is a huge emphasis on profit, but little understanding from execs as to what employees skills are or how the decisions they make affect profit. The overhead is so high, it makes us uncompetitive. Why is the overhead so high? There are about two times two many senior executives than there needs to be, who from what I can tell, "strategize" a lot on things that go no where. Many of these strategies result in (from what I can tell) creating burdensome administrative tasks for the professionals. Can you say FORMS? My coworkers are talented and interesting...but all want to be elsewhere. And there is no job security. I've spent the last several years wondering when I'll be laid off. Case in point...I had a professional in another city scheduled to work on a project. I check in before the site visit only to find out neither he nor his boss were around anymore. It's gotten to the point I wish they would lay me off. At least I'd get a paltry severance.
they pay me, healthcare benes are ok
