Great place for young people coming out of high school to build some fundamental life skills. Depending on the trade you are offered i think that this can be a fulfilling career. Most trades offer great transferable skills after re-entering civilian life. Still in shock that they charge you for lodging and that we had to buy some of our own kit given the extremely low pay they offered. Again, great for young people but not so good for people with family to support
Working with the Department of National Defence has it's drawbacks but as a civilian the pension is the second best pension in Canada, only surpassed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police RCMP pension, as well as the other benefits, sick leave, vacation, medical, etc. is top notch.
Great organization for ones who lack self esteem. It will build you up as a person, they push you past your limits and build you back up. Its mentally draining at times and physically demanding. As i said not made for everyone! Suitable for Adrenaline junkies.
Respect outside of work, help your country and allies, uniform
Mentally and physically draining, powertrippers, conflict of interest, favouritism
It’s a good opportunity to be involved in this six-week-program, it gave me taste of military and having the basic knowledge of military training. It has helped me with time management, working under pressure, and operating a C-7 rifle, and navigation.
This work environment was not good in my opinion. I am sure that there are a lot of people that would like it though. There is really good job security and the pay is really good for not needing any education.
The CF challenging and rewarding at all times. It is the biggest, baddest and best team in this country. The ultimate meritocracy. There are firm and established policies and procedures and you are not subject the whims and moods of incompetent leadership, because there are none. Training is top notch and extensive. If you want to be pushed and learn how to bring others along with you this is the employer for you. A leadership factory.
Comradeship, teamwork a sence of purpose and valuable service.
To get the most out of this job, you have to be prepared to give up a LOT of your time. It's more of a life style than a job. But pay is fantastic, the people you meet will stay with you for life. I would recommend pretty much every young, healthy person to join. It's a great building block for your life, and you can leave after your first contract, or turn it into a life long career. Probably one of the most stable jobs you can get as well.
This job definitely gives you the feeling of perseverance and accomplishment. Challenges you to your core and opting out of an exercise is not even an option. Everyone roots behind you to accomplish all exercises put in front of you.
